Castor Oil for Acne

Castor Oil As A Natural Acne Remedy

When it comes to healthy hair and skin, castor oil is one of nature’s best remedies and is safer and less expensive than most chemical treatments.  Of top of being inexpensive it is very easy to find, I picked up a bottle at my local health food store for less than five dollars.   Castor oil was used widely before more traditional medicines became available  for various both internal and external treatments. Castor oil is vegetable oil extracted from the castor bean.

Castor oil, a natural antibacterial agent, is an effective treatment of acne if used regularly. Ricinoleic Acid, a very unusual fatty acid that can be found only in castor beans gives its unique properties.  Ricinoleic Acid inhibits the growth of many bacteria, viruses, molds and yeasts. Castor oil does not clog your pores and can improve your skin’s texture while treating acne by killing bacteria.

How Castor Oil Works

Castor oil’s healing qualities and drawing properties ( similar to a clay mask) that makes it one of the best natural remedies for acne. Castor oil is fantastic at drawing dirt, bacteria and other nasty stuff trapped in your pores. Castor oil keeps the skin moist and reduces inflammation simultaneously. Castor oil penetrates deep into the skin due to its molecular mass, which is low enough to penetrate into the stratum corneum, the top surface layer of the skin.  This might sound scary to some of you but the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) uses oil directly applied to your face. Although it is common belief that acne is caused by  overproduction of sebum (oil), the best treatments do not involve drying the skin because this causes the skin to produce even more oils.   While oil alone does not cause acne, the more on your skin the greater the chances of it getting mixed with other pollutants is great. There are other factors like age, hormones, dead skin cells, pollutants, makeups and dirt are the real contributors to acne.

Castor Oil uses the properties of this natural oil to penetrate deep into the skin, deeper than any other essential plant oils. Water cannot dissolve oil, so  today’s cleansers and toners use chemicals like man-made detergents to strip your skin of its oil. When the skin is stripped of oil, it overproduces oil to compensate.  Oil with the similar properties to our skin works the best to dissolve other oil. Jojoba oil is the closest match to our skin’s natural oils. By using the right oils, you can cleanse your pores of dirt and bacteria naturally, gently and effectively.

Before You Get Started Please Read!!

Do not use pure castor oil!! I did thinking to get all the gunk in my pores up at once, I know most of you know what I’m talking about if you have ever looked at the magnification side of your makeup mirror.

Now imagine all that surfacing at one time… It looks like this picture below. Then those red bumps surface more into white heads, little ones everywhere. Please also note even with the dilution of the carrier oils castor oil will still draw up lots of gunk. Most people will break out for a few weeks when first starting this method. This is temporary, please do not give up on it till you have at least given it two weeks or don’t even bother. It has been the hardest thing for me to have my skin look even worse than when I began, but now a week and a half in I’m loving the results of the cleared up areas. This will keep me going until my face has cleared completely. I know that it is working, my magnification mirror does not lie!
