A setting powder is basically a loose or compact sheer-to-medium coverage
powder that “sets” your foundation or other base makeup so that it lasts longer
throughout the day. It adheres to any damp and/or sticky part of the foundation
and creates somewhat of a seal. It can also help remove excess shine. Beneficial
for people with combination to oily skin types. Setting powder so that the
oils in the skin do not break down makeup to the point where it’s sliding and/or
disappearing . It can delay the process and save you from touching up so often.
Loose powder: usually more natural and sheer than pressed powder. Also used
to set a liquid foundation and can also be used by itself for a foundation. Loose
face powders come in a container with a sifter and usually a powder puff. I
however find that big fluffy brushes work best in evenly applying it all over.
Pressed powder: is a fuller coverage option, used to set foundation or a
substitute for liquid foundation. This will generally be the heaviest fullest coverage
out of the three. Pressed face powders are available in compacts that include a
sponge or a powder puff for application purposes.
Translucent powder: provides no coverage, and is mainly only used to set a
foundation. Not seen on the skin, but it can make your skin look to have a softer
