What is a Tinted Moisturizer?

Tinted moisturizer not only hydrates your skin but gives it a fresh glow also. It is composed of hydration cream with a light tint and gives a natural looking appearance to your skin as you would only need to add concealer to flaws.
Both tinted moisturizer and foundations contain zinc oxide, which is  responsible for depositing pigment into the  skin. Tinted moisturizers contain up to 3 percent zinc oxide, while foundations contain up to 15 percent zinc oxide. This makes tinted moisturizers sheerer than  foundations when it comes to pigment and coverage.

Many tinted moisturizers contain active ingredients like acne-fighting salicylic acid, skin-calming botanicals, and radiance-boosting minerals. (It’s the absence of finely milled minerals, like mica, in traditional liquid foundations that cause you to look washed out, varnished over, and pancaked.) And you can still use your regular serum or moisturizer under a tinted moisturizer, and dot a concealer over it to hide dark circles, blemishes, or broken capillaries.

Cons:

The coverage can be too sheer for those whose flaws are more apparent, including skin discolorations, broken capillaries, acne scars or breakouts, dark circles, and birthmarks.  If you have a tricky skin tone to match, a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer may still present problems, and there will be fewer shade options than with standard foundations.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer – Oil Free , spf 22, helps prevent  excess oil from building on top of the skin, and  you can build greater coverage over problem areas. Honestly all Laura Mercier products are top quality, you just can’t go wrong with anything from her line. I secretly think she suffers from oily skin and acne too.

Smashbox Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15   Citrus honey ingredients for long-lasting hydration and oil absorption, with UVA/UVB SPF 15 added to guard against future sun damage. I however think this is a benefit for those of us who need more coverage for problem areas!!

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer, Light to Neutral 30, 1 Ounce-This product contains Retinol – most commonly used to fight wrinkles and signs of aging, but is also thought to help clear acne and even out skintones. It’s rich in vitamins, oil free, and of course sunscreen!
